Information on this important document from the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) website, including how it is being implemented in Australia and overseas.  The AHRC site contains the Full Version, an easy read version and a child friendly version of the Convention.

Opening Homes

Opening Homes tries to elevate the standard of accessible housing by sharing insights and showing what’s possible. With the NDIS, people living with a disability and their families will have choice and control about how they use their funding. The more people know about the myriad of accessible housing options available, the better positioned they are to choose what’s best for them. Opening Homes is a resource to discover what’s possible.

The Opening Homes Project is developed by the Julia Farr Housing Association and has been funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

All Means All

Australian Alliance for Inclusive Education - a nationwide multi-stakeholder alliance of people and organisations working together to implement an inclusive education system and remove the legal, structural and attitudinal barriers that limit the rights of some students, including many students with disability, to access full inclusive education in regular classrooms in Australian schools.

The Global Disability Innovation Hub

A collaborative organisation, born out of the legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Bringing together partners connected to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, we work with local communities, academics, experts and disabled people to drive innovation, co-design and creative thinking.  Their mission is to make a positive different to the lives of the one billion disabled people around the world by 2030.

Peer Connect

Peer Connect - is a website that provides practical information about peer networks in Australia. Its focus is on the disability community. This website is funded through the NDIA, and is a collective initiative involving the contributions of many community organisations in Australia.

19 Stories brings attention to the right to living independently & being included in the community under Article 19 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Find out more about the project, including lessons and research about inclusive citizenship for all.

We Have A Voice

‘We Have A Voice’ is a short film by self-advocacy group Reinforce which addresses the everyday struggles faced by people with intellectual disability in our community.

Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability 2017 Conference

Ms Judy Huett, a Member of the Independent Advisory Council and Intellectual Disability Reference Group was a key note speaker at the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability 2017 Conference.  The theme of the conference reflected the major challenges facing all communities who desire to realise the goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and encompassed the issues arising from new approaches to service provision such as increased self-direction, choice and control.  

Intellectual Disability Reference Group

The Intellectual Disability Reference Group was established in 2015 by the IAC to advise the Council on the effectiveness of the Scheme design, and how the Agency can engage and better connect with people with intellectual disability to help them achieve their goals. The video below provides a snapshot of their important work. It illustrates how the IAC is listening to ideas and feedback from people with intellectual disability, carers, advocates, providers and academics about how the Scheme can better support the inclusion of people with intellectual disability.
